WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYDRATING AND MOISTURIZING?

Contrary to popular belief, hydrating and moisturizing are not synonymous. Don’t worry—it’s a really common misconception. In brief, a hydrating product adds water to the skin and a moisturizing product keeps it there.

When your skin is dehydrated, that means your skin cells are lacking water, causing a dull, lackluster complexion. Hydrating products allow for more water absorption to plump up the skin for a supple, youthful appearance. Moisturizing products create a barrier on the surface of the skin to keep moisture locked in; they smooth and soften the outer layer, protecting it from becoming parched and flaky while preventing water loss to maintain a dewy glow.

WHAT’S A NATURAL HUMECTANT?

Natural humectants bind with water molecules, attracting moisture to the surface of the skin and hold it there. They’re great multitaskers to add to your skincare regimen. But not all humectants are created equal—synthetic humectants can dry out skin over time, while natural humectants work with the skin’s hydrating ability to promote long-term moisture production.
